Islamic State has been declared a terrorist organisation under the Australian Citizenship Act. The effect of this is the possibility of cancellation of Australian Citizenship for a dual passport holder who is proven to have engaged in terrorism related conduct.
As the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, Mr Peter Dutton said "These new provisions recognise that people who engage in terrorism related conduct have severed their bond with the community and denied their allegiance to Australia."
